Running the Main Control File (MCF) Program
When you select from the main AA menu- Reports/Control File/Main Control File you are in fact running the main control file program. Once you change one thing in the MCF it starts looking through the MCF default tabs to see if there are any other fields existing that are required to be filled in and haven’t. Often times new fields have been added to the main control file as part of a recent update to Active Accounting. Usually there will be little helpful messages displayed along the bottom edge of the MCF window that point to where you may have to go next to fill a field in. As you have no doubt noticed, the routine can be aborted by hitting the 'Cancel' button to leave the MCF without saving your changes.
Any time you see a "?" mark in a field box in any of the tabs in the main control file, it represents an invitation to place a value in it. Some fields require you to fill them in like the “XML location box”. A Run-Time-Error 76 will occur when the XML Location field box is empty in the XML defaults tab of the Main Control File. It is not too particular what you enter in the box. I for example typed in “XML-Folder”. It created a folder named XML-Folder for me as a result. It is a feature used by only a few of our customers and it depends on whether you have a requirement to transfer accounting information between your locations via .xml file formats.
Most of the MCF default tab screens offer context sensitive help if you press the F1 key on your keyboard. If there is no help or it is insufficient and you are not sure how to fill a field in, don't hesitate to contact 'support' at www.support@udsgis.com
